Contemporary art is a reflection of today’s society
Contemporary art is a reflection of today’s society. On the occasion of the most recent exhibition by artist Francis Alÿs, Forbes Mexico presents a video in which Cuauhtémoc Medina, curator of the exhibition, talks about "Francis Alÿs: Story of a Negotiation" and contemporary art as a reflection of today’s society.
Medina defines the role of the curator as a collaboration with the artist aimed at generating questions through ideas and objects, while also taking into account time and space. He discusses Alÿs’s paintings and affirms that each piece must be presented with "a lot of air." The curator also approaches the idea of contemporary art as a game of practical, explorative and critical processes on social themes that are neglected by other disciplines. He conceptualizes relevant and global themes that are present in the artistic inquiries of Mexican artists.
The exhibition will remain open to the public until August 16 of 2015 at the Museo Rufino Tamayo.
