As part of the exhibition titled "Los Carpinteros," named after the group formed by artists Marco Castillo and Dagoberto Rodríguez, the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo (MARCO) in Monterrey, Mexico, presents an interview with the Cuban artistic duo.
Castillo and Rodríguez met at the Instituto Superior de las Artes in Havana, where both studied. There, they worked together in class exercises under René Francisco, a professor that had an influential role in shaping their artistic vision as a group.
In the interview the two artists also address the importance of exploring objects and the way in which new ideas and possibilities are generated in their work through recodifications, combinations and interactions. The curator of the exhibition, Gonzalo Ortega, developed his curatorial proposal through a group of works that generate a critical approach to several sociopolitical contexts.
